The Sourdough Mining Company Restaurant opened on Mother's Day of 1984, and was originally intended as a small barbeque house. No sonner were the doors open, than visions grew...and with that so did the menu and the name. No longer Sourdough Barbecue, we remain a locally owned and family run establishment catering to the needs of other families. We can accommodate all groups - large or small, in for business or pleasure. Our building is a replica of the old Mill House at Independence Mine and when you walk in the front door you arrive in our "mining tunnel" - take a look around! You'll notice that the walls and ceiling are lined with rock from Hatcher's Pass. Just like at the mine, you are shielded from the rocks by fencing...just in case of an Avalanche!!! Follow the Ore Cart tracks, cut right into the floor, past the enormous Alaskan Grizzly and the build-your-own ice cream sundae bar to have an Alaskan brew or one of our specialty drinks in the Creekside Saloon. There, you can view old gold mining photographs or walk out by Campbell Creek to watch the salmon run. After dinner, our local legend presents "The Adventures of Dusty Sourdough" in the Tent City Theatre. He tells tales and sings songs about life as an Alaskan mountain man. Each show will entertain and captivate our youngest travelers... or those who are just young at heart!
