Harvest Select Catfish has western Alabama hooked on catfish. It is one of the largest catfish farming companies in Alabama, processing over 700,000 pounds per week. The company was founded in 1991 by five Uniontown, Ala., farmers. Paul Bryant Jr., son of former Alabama football coach Paul Bear Bryant, purchased controlling interest in Harvest Select Catfish in 1999 and expanded the company to more than 300 employees. Harvest Select Catfish operates over 70 percent of the acreage needed to run its Uniontown plant. The balance of the acreage needed is contracted to some of the largest farmers in Alabama. The company grows catfish from eggs to fingerlings and food size. It has nursery ponds and grow-out ponds. Harvest Select Catfish operates its own harvest and live-haul department. It operates a fleet of modern refrigerated trucks. In situations where our trucks cannot deliver, Harvest Select Catfish uses reliable, frozen carriers.
