This wine retailer went into business in 2004 in fulfillment of a distribution philosophy practically unique in the winemaking industry. It deals with small farmers who use a minimum of mechanized equipment in planting and harvesting, so that grapes can be assiduously cultivated and delicately nurtured. By dealing directly with these suppliers, Rominger West seeks to encourage sustainable agricultural practices, resource conservation and the local economy.
This philosophy developed from a working relationship originally built by Charlie Rominger, who had grown grapes on his Yolo County family farm for decades and Mark West, a Napa Valley winemaker. West was so impressed with the quality of Rominger grapes he suggested they grow grapes together in Yolo County – the soil here being of a fertility practically unrivalled the world over.
Today, with its spacious, well-appointed tasting room and warehouse, Rominger West makes the fruit of the labor of careful farmers and top-tier winemakers available to Davisites and travelers.
Popular musical concerts are held weekly in the tasting room which is closely accessible from the Mace Boulevard Interstate 80 exit.
