The Red Onion is one of the most popular hamburger joints in El Cerrito. It opened its doors almost 40 years ago in 1971. The place is a tiny mom and pop restaurant with a couple of two-people tables and countertop seating that surrounds the small kitchen area. You can watch your food being cooked while you wait. Cheeseburgers, fries and shakes are the specialties. The restaurant is decorated with vintage coca-cola wallpaper and 50's memorabilia. You can find El Cerrito locals staked out at the counter on any day of the week reading the paper and watching the world go by over a burger and a basket of fries.
