Other Details:
On this site in 1874 the original arsenal was built by Count Cortez del Cota in the adobe style common in New Spain, as California was then called. The first documented Devil Winds (Santa Anas) destroyed the building, which was left in rubble for twenty years until Guillermina Garcia and her son Diego rebuilt the structure as a saloon. Local gold prospectors and orange farmers came from miles around to drink their homemade firewater and listen to Guillermina sweetly sing her native Mexican folk songs.
