Walter and Marlene Goetzeler bought Freeport Bakery in 1987. It was a small but delightful bakery specializing in cakes. They inherited seven staff members. Over the past twenty years, the Goetzeler's long hours and amazingly dedicated staff grew the bakery into an award winning neighborhood bakery. Now employing over 45 employees, many long term, Freeport Bakery is a Sacramento institution.
