Their paths crossed more than two decades ago out of mutual interest in the restaurant business. Today Steve Cruz and James Sito are co-owners of CreAsian Bistro, each one bringing his unique skills, creativity and interests to this popular neighborhood spot. Steve, a San Leandro resident, came to the United States in 1984 from the Philippines and began his restaurant career at a Chico steakhouse. Starting as a dishwasher, he soon was promoted to kitchen helper, then chef, waiter and finally chef/manager. He was hooked. “I loved creating food, getting to know regular customers,” he said. In 1988, after managing a traditional Chinese restaurant in Fairfield, Steve opened his own restaurant in Oakland.
