Fifty years ago the husband and wife team of Roy and Fay Knowlton, together with Gene Wood, started a restaurant called Knowl-Wood at the old Orangewood Ranch in what is now the city of Anaheim Hills in Orange County, California. The homemade quality of the food and downright friendly service quickly became a trademark. Before the 91-Riverside Freeway was built, Knowlwood was a favorite stopping point along the old Imperial Highway, a popular orange-grove dotted route to get through the county. The "Home of the World's Best HamburgerTM" was frequently referred to by locals as simply the "World's Best."
