Other Details:
We are located in Farmington CT along the banks of the Farmington River, not far from the city of Hartford. The building the restaurant occupies was a trolley barn located at the end of the line from Hartford. In the early 1800's there was a trolley turn-around here for the house drawn trolleys that made there way along Farmington Avenue. The restaurant is a two level building with a casual Pub on the first level and two more formal dining rooms on the second level. We are open 7 days a week serving lunch , dinner and a Sunday "lunch". The Pub and Parlor have their own special dinner menu that features "casual & comfortable" food to its loyal patrons. At all other times the Pub offers the same menu that's served in our main dining rooms. The River Room, Garden Room & Trolley Room are located on the second level offering white tablecloth service and dining. The Summer months our large Patio on the banks of the Farmington RiverApricots opened in January of 1983 and has catered to a wonderfully diverse clientele. The dining rooms upstairs and the patio outside are often used for Weddings, Rehearsal Dinners, Showers, Birthday Parties and Business Dinners. Tour groups visiting the nearby Hillstead Museum and Mark Twain House often book for lunch.Critics have looked favorably at our efforts. Food critics Patricia Brooks of The New York Times and Jane and Michael Stern of the Hartford Courant have given us three stars. In a recent review in the Calendar section of the Hartford Courant we received a rare "excellent" rating. Zagat's Guide gave us an "excellent" rating. Most recently Connecticut Magazines Readers voted us "Best in State" for our desserts and "Best in State" in The Continental Cuisine category. Our cuisine is often difficult to categorize but is always easy to enjoy. We've often been referred to as serving Continental or American / Continental cuisine. We prefer to call our food "Contemporary American Cuisine" featuring the finest regional American products as well as flavorful ingredients from around the world.
