Long a fearsome competitor in the Central Connecticut steamed burger wars, the Lunch Box got a shot of new life when Anita Dufresne – a registered nurse – took over the famed restaurant in 2010. The sliver of a diner on East Main and Clinton Street has been serving aficionados of this local dish since 1943.
Dufresne tweaked the storied cheeseburger with an aged cheddar and added some new dishes like eggs Benedict to the menu – changes that are bringing new customers in but still satisfying the long-faithful, she says.
