The Therien family started in the FL restaurant business in 1971. John Therien started The Banana Boat in September 1971, on Commercial Blvd east of U.S.1. John Therien and his sons, Luke and Giles, moved to Boynton Beach in 1978 and relocated The Banana Boat to Boynton Beach, on Ocean Avenue and the Intracoastal Waterway.In 1989 John Therien and his sons started the Fifth Avenue Grill steakhouse. This fine dining steakhouse was the first in the area to offer prime steaks in a classic Chicago style fine dining atmosphere. Since then many steakhouses have opened up in the area, but as the locals know, Fifth Avenue Grill was the first, and still the best to offer Great Steaks at a fair price.
