Whether you're looking to fill your belly with scrumptious vittles or pitch a tent to sleep under the stars, Linger Lodge is the place to be. The décor reminds one of a mess hall with its wood floors and paneling.

Hanging on the walls, ceiling or encased in glass are the critters of Florida: bobcats, snakes, pheasants, fish, turtles and one huge alligator. Frank Gamsky and his wife Elaine founded the campground 1945 was a veterinarian and a taxidermist. "Whatever he couldn't save, he stuffed," said Rita Lewis, the restaurant's manager.

On the menu at Linger Lodge is the customary fare of burgers, sandwiches and seafood. Then things get interesting. Special to the menu is fresh, Florida alligator: you can get it fried or served up piping hot in a bowl of chowder. The gators are caught by licensed trappers and sent for processing at a government-approved processing plant.

If camping is your game, Linger Lodge has five cabins available for rent. Each cabin has one bedroom and a pull-out couch and a fully equipped kitchen with linens. All RV sites have electricity, sewer and water hookups. Campsites are available at river's edge or up higher in case you don't want to share your tent with a turtle. Resort customers enjoy a 10 percent discount at the restaurant.
