Driving south from Miami on US 1 Keys begin about mile marker 106 in Key Largo and extend to mile marker 0 in Key West. The city, called the Gem of the Florida Keys, is a on an island just south of the Overseas Highway connected via a causeway with a very small bridge.There are just over 800 residents of Key Colony Beach, but the population peaks to about 4, 000 in mid-winter. The city was founded in the early fifties by developer Phil Sadowski and was incorporated in September 1957. The city is situated on 286 acres and contains approximately 1, 400 units of housing. It has had several other names in it's long rich history but it has always maintained itself as a popular dining experience with all the locals and visitors. In 2002 the Tracy family purchased the neighboring Tavern by the Sea and following extensive renovations opened the Cabana Breezes to the public. Their outstanding level of personal attention to detail has carried over into this newest venture. It has already achieved a reputation as one of the best restaurants in the Marathon / Key Colony Beach area.Wherever you are right now, chances are the weather is better here in the Florida Keys. That's true even on a summer day. The hottest it's ever been in Key West is 97 F ( 36 C ), and that was way back in 1880. At the peak of summer, the average high is 89 F ( 32 C ).
