Frank Cortese opened Little Italy in 1997 in Downtown Athens. Arguably the best pizza in town, Little Italy offers the closest thing to true New York-style pizza, as well as calzones, strombolis and hearty sub sandwiches. Catering mostly to a late-night crowd, the restaurant stays open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. Offering large portions for cheap, this pizzeria is a last stop of many UGA students after a night of lively bar-hopping. There are also cheap pitchers of beer and big-screen televisions if customers want to enjoy a football or soccer game and, if feeling in the competitive mood, there are dart boards in the back.
