Beans & Strings provides a fun, creative and relaxing environment for parties and meetings. Patrons have held brithday parties, sales meetings, staff meetings, engagement parties, graduation parties, fund raising events, etc in our store. We have options for parties and meetings during regular business hours and after hours. We also offer options that include decorations. Contact owner Vanessa Foster-Whiddon at ( 229 ) 985-0093 for rates, availability and other info.Booking Process: If you are a musician interested in playing on Saturday night at Beans & Strings, contact owner Eric Foster-Whiddon at ( 229 ) 985-0093. Eric books our entertainment schedule and makes decisions regarding artists. He needs to hear your music, either in live or recorded form, before he can book you. If you have a press kit, drop it in the mail. If you have a MySpace, Facebook or ReverbNation page with samples of your music, share the URL with Eric and he'll check it out. The best way to get your foot in the door at Beans & Strings is to come over on a Friday and play Open Mic Night. If you plan to do so, give Eric a call beforehand to let him know you're coming... he often emcees Open Mic Night, but not always. Most Saturday night artists start out by playing at Open Mic Night, then play as an opening act with another band on Saturday night, then move into a headliner slot.Artist Payment: Saturday night artists are paid by the cover charge; opening acts receive 25% of the cover and headliners get 75%. Saturday night artists get coffee for free all night. The cover charge from Saturday night shows rarely reflects the time and effort that the musicians put into preparation and performance, but most acts leave with enough cash to serve as a nice Thanks! for what they do. The store does not keep a cut of the cover charge, so artists are welcome to have an unlimited number of persons on their guest list who are exempt from paying cover. Patrons who are buying coffee to-go do not pay cover charge.Artist Merchandise: Saturday night artists are welcome and encouraged to bring merchandise to sell at the show. Merchandising is a great way to supplement our meager cover charge.Volume Level & Band Set-Up: Because Saturday night concerts are dedicated to specific artists and those attending typically have come specifically to hear that artist, we allow the volume level of the show to be a bit higher than what we prefer for Open Mic Night. Many artists do acoustic-style sets, but we are not afraid to plug you in and use a full band set-up, complete with drum kit, electric guitars and amplifiers. Though our store is considerably larger than the typical coffee shop, it's still not a large music venue and we ask that you work hard to control the volume level so that patrons can converse across the tables without yelling.PA System: We provide a 16-channel powered board with two 15 mains and one 15 floor monitor. Our mic selection includes two Shure SM58s and one Shure SM57. We can also provide 1/4 direct inputs for instruments. Our board is plenty powerful for our venue and includes a nice selection of onboard effects. Artists often bring additional monitors, mics and mic stands with them.Song Selection: Our house rule with both Open Mic Night and Saturday night concerts is that all music be mixed-audience friendly, avoiding objectionable language or content. We are not attempting to create a kiddie venue, but because we are an alcohol & smoke-free environment, our patrons often bring their kids with them to shows and we don't want them to have to cover little ears during the concert. If a staple song in your set list has a few blue words in it, please be considerate and do the radio-edited version. We are licensed by ASCAP ( American Society of Composers and Performers ) for live music, so covers are welcome and a Saturday night set is typically 90% covers.
