Portillo's started in a trailer in Villa Park in 1967. Over the years it developed into a chain, and now operates in about thirty locations in the Chicagoland area. Specialties include hot dogs and Italian beef, but Portillo's also serves healthier fare such as salads and fish sandwiches. The Skokie location has an outdoor garden area as well as a drive-through and a decent-size parking lot.
