Yen Ching Origin Yen Ching, the ancient name for Beijing today, as served as capital of China since 3000 years ago, when King Wu first declared Yen Ching as the capital city in 1057 BC during the western Zhou Dynasty. Yen Ching remained us capital through many centuries until 1421, when the emperor of Ming Dynasty changed the name to Beijing meaning North Capital for the city. For almost seven centuries, Beijing was a powerful center for the Mongols, the Ming era, the Manchus, and today's People Republic of China. Have been the home of the Ming and Qing Emperors, the city became known for its elaborates and splendor in every aspects of life, such as the stately buildings, now known as Forbidden City and Summer Palace, which are rich in colors of red and gold yellow, the imperial color, and elaborate in form.
