The West Central Indiana Economic Development District, located in Terre Haute, Ind., is a nonprofit agency that works towards reducing unemployment and underemployment, raising per capita income, halting out-migration, and upgrading community facilities and services. The district is composed of six member counties comprising Clay, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion, Vigo and Putnam counties in Indiana. It is governed by a board of directors consisting of up to six representatives from each of the six individual member counties of the district, making up a total of thirty-six individuals. Each member county of the WCIEDD has one representative chosen by the county commissioners, two county council representatives and one representative who is the mayor or town board president of the largest city or town within the member county. Each county also has two representatives from the member county s private citizen planning committee or economic development committee.
