The restaurant was founded in 2002 by Scott Redler and the Simon family. The chain's national franchising program continues to progress after the four-unit quick-service concept successfully opened its first franchised location in 2004 in Hutchinson, Kan. Its menu features a variety of items, including specialty hot dogs, chili, shoestring french fries, desserts, custard and steakburgers. In addition to Freddy's Frozen Custard, partners Redler and Bill Simon also own the four-unit Timberline Steakhouse chain in Kansas and Missouri.
