Union Bancshares, located in Marksville, La., is the parent company of Union Bank. The first Union Bank opened in Avoyelles, La., in 1910 with $25,000 of capital stock. During the stock market crash and the Great Depression of the 1920 s, The Union Bank survived and even flourished. In 1935, The Union Bank absorbed the Marksville branch of the Avoyelles Trust and Savings Bank of Bunkie, La. By 1941, there were three banks left in the parish of Avoyelles. The full service bank has branches in Hessmer, Bunkle, Alexandria, Pineville, with its loan-production office in Lafayette, La.
