When we opened Juan’s just before Mardi Gras in 1997, it was with the realization that there was not much in ultra-casual dining in New Orleans. We started out as a value oriented Mission-style punk rock burrito joint with an “all fresh food” attitude, including many vegetarian options, a rarity in town at the time. As we matured with the New Orleans food scene, we recognized that it would be fun to blend our not-very-authentic Mexican food with our hometown food styling and thus began our foray into being the world’s first and only Creole Taqueria. We opened a complement to our Lower Garden District flagship in the summer of 2002 in Mid-City. Bringing a whole new cadre of talent with that store allowed us to expand our offerings, often expressed as specials. We recently converted a former Asian restaurant in the CBD into our newest sophisticated dive where we continue to push the boundaries of what could be considered Creole-Mex!
