The Brigham's chain got its start back in the early 20th century. Hingham branch owner Pat Halliday bought out this restaurant in 2004, maintaining the Brigham charm even after the corporation filed for bankruptcy in 2008 and closed most of its restaurants. Just a few remain, along with the associated Halliday's restaurants, including locations in Quincy, Belmont and Arlington.
This Brigham's location in downtown Hingham has been serving its loyal customers delicious ice cream and hamburgers since 1954. The restaurant is open seven days a week and 12 months a year, though it gets really busy during the summer when people travel through downtown on their way to Hull and Nantasket Beach. Brigham's is very involved in the revitalization of downtown Hingham and is a member of the Downtown Hingham Association, which puts on events every few months. Halliday would like to see events taking place every month and is urging other stores in the area to sign on for more than just the Taste of Hingham, the Fourth of July Parade and other town standbys.
