It was the fall of 1981 and Bob and Pat Hannon had reached a point in their lives where a serious decision had to be made regarding their finances. Bob, a business teacher at Sandwich High School, and Pat, an administrative assistant at a local department store, had two children; Bobby, a sophomore at Connecticut College and Julie, a junior in high school. In two years both children would be in college and the Hannon's present income would never suffice.Thus, Ice Cream Sandwich was born.Over the winter of 1982, Bob worked in several homemade ice cream establishments to learn how to make ice cream, with the help of his high school students, decided on Flavors, a name (Ice Cream Sandwich in Sandwich) and a philosophy.
