The West Ward school, built in 1847, is the last of four original schoolhouses remaining in Wakefield. Local historians believe it is the second oldest continuously operating schoolhouse in the state. The school, which was restored and reopened in September of 2010, now houses the Wakefield Historical Society Museum.
