Being Boaters and Jimmy Buffett fans A.K.A. “Parrot Heads” we tried to get a location on Lake St. Clair. However, paying that much for water front and only being busy during boating season didn’t seem like a good mix. In 1993 we opened as The Parrot Head Lounge, until Jimmy Buffett’s Lawyers contacted us on Christmas Eve and informed us that the name was trademarked and we had to change our name. Since the sign was ordered but not quite finished we had to come up with a four letter word to put after Parrot. After rejecting all of the four letter words that Bill was coming up with, one of our customers said how about COVE. That seemed O.K. and as a “Joke” we added Yacht Club. Well, so it wasn’t that funny, you can’t believe over the years how many times we have heard “ Is this a private club”. Yeah the water level is just way down this year!
