Auntie Anne's, a specialty snack shop featuring hand rolled, fresh baked pretzels, has been located on the upper level of Eden Prairie Center since 2008. The soft, hot pretzels are baked on the premises no more than half an hour before purchase, and manager Sarah Schafer says the egg-free dough is made from a secret recipe devised by "Auntie" Anne Beiler, who started the business in 2003 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Novelty items include pretzel nuggets, almond encrusted pretzels, pretzel dogs (made with a kosher Nathan's frank), and pepperoni pizza pretzels, served with a dipping marinara. Auntie Anne's offers pretzel kits and even a field trip program for boy and girl scouts and Head Start students: kids can learn some pretzel history and scouts can earn merit badges for the effort.
