Located in the heart of downtown Northfield, the Archer House is one of the cornerstone landmarks of this historic community. Built in 1877 by John D. Archer along the Cannon River, this hotel was designed to bring the 'cowboy' town (the Jesse James bank holdup occurred in 1876) into the modern era. With a beautiful red brick exterior and French Empire design, the four-story building became the town's crown jewel.
The hotel just completed a major renovation in March 2010 and now has 36 'smoke-free' rooms with four sizes to choose from. All rooms have a theme and a name related to local history.
The hotel's location puts it in the center of Northfield's great historic shopping, business and restaurant area, giving visitors the opportunity to walk around the downtown, surrounding community and colleges.
