Eddy's Lake Mille Lacs Resort is named after the ambitious entrepreneur - Edward Silker, A.K.A.- Eddy.Eddy moved to Mille Lacs Lake in 1949 with his family when he was just nine years old. Even at that early age, he began honing his business skills by making and selling fishing sinkers to area resorts. By the time he was 15 years old, Eddy was already dreaming of commanding the largest fleet of fishing vessles on the lake. That is exactly what he did.In 1960 he established Eddy's Resort and began his launch fishing operation. Every winter, for the next 10 years, he would make a new fishing launch. All launch boats were built at Eddy's Resort and were numbered according to what year they were built. For example, the boats 6, 8, 9 &10 signify the years 1966, 1968, 1969 and 1970 and are still being used to this day.On July 10, 1966, during a launch trip, Eddy found himself and 15 passengers caught in a tornado. The five-ton fishing launch was being tossed around like a bobber. Eddy made a vow that if he made it back to shore, he would go back to school and fullfill his parents dreams of having a doctor in the family.Eddy graduated from the U of M Dentistry in 1973. He is currently the chairman of the board of The Smile Centers.
