Ellenbecker:http://www.sctimes.com/story/news/local/2015/05/13/man-recorded-women-sentenced/27250809/A St. Cloud man who admitted video recording unsuspecting women in their St. Cloud residences was sentenced Wednesday to nearly six years in prison, a sentence that was stayed with numerous conditions.According to court records, Kevin James Petroske, 34, was charged after police found at least 39 recordings on his cellphone or at his residence of women who were naked or partially clothed.Court records say the recordings were made by someone who was outside the womens' residences and recording what was happening inside, and many were made in the area near St. Cloud State University, where Petroske lived.Petroske pleaded guilty to five counts of committing a pattern of stalking conduct, which is a felony. He also pleaded guilty to one count of interfering with privacy, a gross misdemeanor. As a part of his plea agreement, 29 related counts were dismissed. The charges against Petroske accused him of using his cellphone to record into the residences of the women, who had never met him and didn't know he was recording them. The charges also indicate that, in some cases, Petroske was masturbating while watching the women.Petroske was charged in early August with one count of interfering with privacy after a neighbor reported seeing a man peeking into the window of a house in south St. Cloud. An officer responded to the scene and watched as Petroske recorded into the residence, according to court records.Assistant Stearns County Attorney Kevin Voss asked that Petroske be sentenced to prison. Petroske's attorney, John Ellenbecker, argued that Petroske was amenable to probation and shouldn't go to prison.Stearns County District Court Judge Frederick Grunke sentenced Petroske to 57 months in prison and as many as 20 years probation, but stayed the prison sentence. He gave Petroske credit for time served, meaning Petroske will be released from jail.Petroske told Grunke that he planned to transfer his probation to Hibbing, where he would live with his mother, Voss said. The conditions Grunke imposed were that Petroske not use alcohol and drugs, not live on a college campus or residences associated with a college, not possess any pornography or sexually explicit material, attend a sex offender program, submit to polygraph examinations and not use the Internet without approval and not unless he installs and pays for monitoring software.According to court records, investigators were able to identify six victims in 25 of the recordings they found on Petroske's phone and at his house.
