Laporte is a borough in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 290 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Sullivan County. Laporte is surrounded by Laporte Township. It was named for John Laporte. It is the smallest county seat in Pennsylvania by population (as of the 2000 Census), and in 1969 was one of the two smallest in the United States.According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.3 km²), of which, 1.1 square miles (2.9 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (12.50%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 290 people, 95 households, and 60 families residing in the borough. The population density was 258.2 people per square mile (100.0/km²). There were 271 housing units at an average density of 241.3 per square mile (93.4/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.97% White, 0.34% African American and 0.69% Native American.
