The first Common Man Restaurant opened in Ashland, N.H. in 1971 serving fresh seafood, Roast Prime Rib, hearty soups and sandwiches, fresh Maine mussels and hearty Lobster corn chowder, Maple leaf farm duck, and country meatloaf, what is termed American fare. The dining experience is enhanced by the ambiance of the restaurant. The buildings are usually historic New England structures, a farmhouse or renovated barn, dining in rooms with a giant fieldstone fireplace or comfortable couches next to the wood stove where customer may play a game of checkers or cribbage. Common Man has grown both in size and in its commitment to philanthropic work. Management of each restaurant is encouraged to organize a quarterly fundraiser to support some project or organization important to the community. The Common Man restaurants are located in Concord, Lincoln, Ashland, Merrimack, and Windham, New Hampshire. The other restaurants in the Common Man group of restaurants include Fosters Steakhouse, the Italian Farmhouse, LAGO, Town Docks, Tilt n Diner in Tilton and the Airport Diner.
