The Water Department is responsible for providing high quality drinking water, as well as information about Livingston's drinking water. The Department regularly tests water samples to ensure that the water meets the standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection.

Sources of water include 12 production wells in Livingston and water purchased from New Jersey American Water (NJAW) that is a blend of ground water, reservoir water and river water from the area. Emergency water supplies are available from the City of East Orange.
