In 1984, the Saratoga ARC opened the first accessible community-based home in Saratoga County, N.Y., for people with developmental disabilities. Saratoga ARC s, which stands for Association for Retarded Citizens, residential program has grown to offer a choice of 12 homes that can provide more than 80 individuals with living accommodations. The organization also offers 10 family care providers who have more than 10 people residing with them. Its goal is to assist residents in becoming independent within their living environments by offering support and services to live, work and socialize within the community. Saratoga ARC is located in Ballston Spa, N.Y.
