This Carvel location is part of a nationwide chain that was started in Westchester County in the 1930s. This location sells ice cream cakes, hard and soft ice cream in cones or dishes and more. It offers counter service and has eat-in tables. It is located in the shopping center that also houses the Elwood Cinema movie theater.

Legend has it that Tom Carvel's ice cream truck broke down upstate necessitating a quick sale of his inventory. Customers enjoyed the ice cream as it softened and Carvel also realized he could sell more product from a fixed location than from a moving truck. Today, Carvel is famous for its ice cream cakes with chocolate crunchies. There are more than 500 Carvel stores and the products are sold in more than 8,500 supermarkets nationwide, including Stop & Shop in Northport.
