Other Details:
Since its inception in 1998, wine grapes such as chardonnay, cabernet franc and merlot have been harvested at Ackerly Pond Vineyards in Peconic. The grapes are pressed into wine by Eric Fry, just down the road at Lenz winery. The wines are sold in Ackerly Pond's renovated barn, which serves as its tasting room. The vineyard is named after a pond just to the east of the barn that was the site of a grist mill. Former air traffic controller Ray Blum, who has been planting vines on the North Fork since the 1970s, started the vineyard with his family. Newcomer to the region, Sannino Bella Vita Vineyard shares tasting room space with Ackery Ponds Vineyards.
