The Staten Island YMCA Counseling Service offers hope to those whose lives have been turned upside-down by drug or alcohol abuse. Since 1980, we have provided the Staten Island community with comprehensive prevention and treatment services that promote the development of spirit, mind and body. Our state-licensed outpatient program includes treatment services for adults and older teens, prevention services for at-risk youth, and counseling services for children who have been affected by a family member's addiction. If you, a family member, or someone close to you is struggling with alcoholism or a substance abuse problem, don't wait to call. At the YMCA we recognize that because no two individuals are the same, no single treatment method works for everyone. During our initial evaluation, we look at every aspect of a client's life, working to better understand the unique circumstances that underlie their problems. Our counselors meet you where you're at, guiding each client to the best course of treatment for their current situation. Because we are committed to providing the right care to the right person, our services are not based around a single treatment philosophy. Instead, we draw on over 25 years of experience with a wide range of clinical methodologies to develop treatment plans that meet the specific needs of each client. Our diverse staff includes social workers, credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselors, psychiatrists, nursing staff, and other trained advocates, many of whom have overcome their own struggles with addiction. Our Services Include: Individual counseling Group counseling Family therapy and family skills training Vocational assessment and referral Positive alternative activities Career education and guidance Referral to alternative treatment programs Intervention with the criminal justice and child welfare systems
