Dante's Gourmet Deli is one instance when the word "gourmet" retains its original meaning for Italian fare. Stepping into Dante's is like stepping into an authentic Italian salumeria, latticini, bakery, grocery store and deli rolled into one. There are 200 varieties of cheese, including mozzarella made in the store. There are sausages and other meats, cookies, cakes and imported dried pasta, in addition to fresh tortellini, ravioli and gnocchi, also made in the store. Wraps, paninis and sandwiches are made to order on fresh-baked bread from the Sullivan Street and Terranova bakeries.  All of this and more is crammed into a small space and presided over by people who obviously love working here. If you are looking for something on which to present your gourmet selections, Dante's also has an attractive selection of imported Italian ceramics to choose from. Stop by any day but Monday.
