Long considered the Cheers of Gedney Way, Sam's has existed in one form or another since 1932, when Sam Eisenstein purchased a lot near the now-defunct Westchester & Boston Railroad Station and opened a hamburger and coffee stand.
Since then, Sam's has expanded considerably, adding on a full bar and restaurant, as well as a catering business, a banquet room, private parking lot and a veranda for outdoor dining. The food remains both extensive and classic: Dishes such as the lobster quesadilla, the bistro veal meatloaf, and the spinach and strawberry salad offer variety while still retaining a sense of tradition.
The restaurant offers several specials each week, including a price fixed dinner menu ($25 a head for three courses, offered Sunday through Tuesday), and live music from a guitar duo on Tuesday nights, starting at 7pm. Additionally, the catering service is quite flexible, offering both vegetarian and kosher options.
