Louis C. Graeter founded Graeter s in 1870. In the mid 1800s, the Graeter family emigrated from Germany to a farm in Madison, Ind. Louis Graeter left home at age 16 and came to Cincinnati, where he began making ice cream by hand. Graeter's French Pot Ice Cream, handmade chocolate confections and fresh baked goods have become traditions in Cincinnati. The company operates more than 10 stores in Cincinnati and has franchised stores in Columbus and Dayton, Ohio; New Albany, Ind.; and Lexington and Louisville, Ky.
