Other Details:
Gaetano Ferri, an Italian immigrant, started Ferri’s Pizza in 1936 in the small, mostly Italian, town of Old Forge, PA. At that time in Old Forge, there were only bars that served food/pizza. Then in the early 50’s, Gaetano is said to have opened the first “pizza shop”, just selling pizza and pasta and it did not serve alcohol. Ferri’s Pizza was one of the original creators of “Old Forge Style Pizza” in the town that now claims the title of “Pizza Capital of the World”! Gaetano would work in the coal mines in the day and run his pizza shop at night. He went on to have 5 children and his 4 sons had their own pizza shops in various town in NEPA, including Vince Ferri who still operates his Ferri’s Pizza on Keyser Ave in Scranton (formally on top of Taylor Hill). Vince’s son, Bill Ferri (now in his 50’s) and his wife, Janice, have had a few of their own pizza shops in many different towns in the area as well. Bill & Janice moved from Old Forge to Moscow 30 years ago and have had their restaurant in Moscow for 17 years now. They are the chefs and the owners of Ferri’s Pizza, and have a reputation for making quality food that is not only fresh & delicious but also inventive and new! There’s always something different to try at Ferri’s.
