Billy's Black and Gold was founded in 1988 as a family oriented sports bar dedicated to the pro teams of Pittsburgh. Being the only city with all their teams wearing the same colors, Billy's has a black and gold team to cheer on throughout the year. Located at 514 Sharpsville Ave, Billy's started by adding TVs and a satellite and crowds gathered to watch the Penguins' Stanley Cup championships as well as the Pirates' success of the early 1990s and the Steelers' Super Bowl trip in 1996. Then on August 1, 1996 a devastating fire destroyed all but a small corner of the building. With the community help to clean up and rebuild, the new building was opened for the start of the '97 Steelers season.
