When local Main Liner Joe Carney drove by the closed former "John Harvard's" brewpub/restaurant building on Lancaster Avenue in early 2008, he instantly knew he was looking at a "Trophy" location. A restaurant for many, many years - going back to the days of the "Old Covered Wagon Inn" - Joe saw potential for the site that went far beyond its previous incarnations . . . and, he was looking for an opportunity to expand his business beyond his legendary "Carney's Cape May" restaurant. With over 35 years experience in the "biz" (including a long run on City Line Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, with "Carney's City Line"), Joe's introduction to the hospitality industry started at the tender age of 5, when he worked after school at his parents' restaurant. As many have said about success in the restaurant business - "you've got to have it in your blood" . . . and in Joe's case, it is true.Joe quickly called his friend and golfing partner - Steve Finley (Finley Catering) - about the real estate offering, and once the two of them got their heads together on what they both saw as a great opportunity, it was "all systems go".
