Citizens Bank has been a Rhode Island institution since 1828, when it was opened as the High Street Bank in Providence. It functioned as a commercial bank until its first retail bank was opened in 1947 in Cranston, RI.  One year later it was acquired and renamed Citizens Trust Company. The East Greenwich branch on Main Street does not have a drive-thru window.
