As of 2010, Bank of America is the largest bank holding company in the U.S. and has relationships with 99 percent of the Fortune 500 companies. Bank of America's history dates back to 1904, when founder Amadeo Giannini began the bank in San Francisco to cater to immigrants who were often not served by other banks. After the 1906 earthquake, when other banks were in ruins, Giannini used some of his rescued funds to offer loans out of his home.
