Kentucky Fried Chicken was founded by Harland Sanders, aka "The Colonel," in 1952 as part of a hotel and service station he was running at the time. Incidentally, he was not ever a colonel in any of the United States military services. The chain is known for its fried chicken with 11 secret herbs and spices, as well as the world-famous KFC acronym, by which many customers know the restaurant.
