About Purple Pig Caf We've been catering for Businesses and Families in East Texas for 20 years. Along with caterings across East Texas we've also cooked in various BBQ cook offs throughout the state. It was one of these cook offs in 1990 where the Purple Pig was born. While cooking in a barbecue cook-off in 1990, a fellow from Tennessee asked me to put barbecue sauce and coleslaw on top of his pulled pork sandwich. The coleslaw had purple cabbage in it. As I handed him the sandwich, I said 'Here's your Purple Pig', and it stuck! - Malcolm R. Johnson (owner) The name stuck so well, it wasn't long after that the first Purple Pig Caf location was opened. Starting in Canton, Texas at the First Monday Trade Days, Purple Pig Caf served up East Texas' finest barbecue from a concession trailer on the original First Monday Trade Days grounds. In 2000 the Purple Pig was moved from the outside concession trailer to the inside of the Arbors at the Arbors Atrium food court, and to this day we are still serving the best hickory-smoked meats to our loyal customers and our soon to be loyal customers in Canton, Texas. In the summer of 2005 Purple Pig Caf decided it was time to open a full time restaurant so we could bring East Texas' Finest hickory-smoked barbecue to the Tyler area 7 days a week. On Dec 9th 2005 Purple Pig Caf opened the doors of its second location on Highway 155 South in Flint, Texas. With an expanded menu from the Canton location, the Purple Pig continued to sell the best barbecue along with some of our favorite recipes from our barbecue cook-off days. In addition to Purple Pig Caf Barbecue Menu, in June 2009 we introduced our Native American Grill Menu. The Native American Grill Menu supplements all of our favored barbecue items and includes grill items such as Fried Catfish, Hamburgers, Chicken Fried Ribeye, and much more. You can even chow down on some of the best tamales in East Texas! We have live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday which makes the Purple Pig a great place to grab some food and enjoy some good entertainment. Our goal is to have a caf with excellent food, service, cleanliness, and a menu that allows our patrons to have something different daily. Whether it's for our Barbecue, Fish, or Burgers, come on out and enjoy good food and good times! You'll be glad you did! And for all sports enthusiasts out there we've also added 3 LCD flat screen TV's to the restaurant. These beauties are viewable from just about anywhere on the inside are are tuned to your favorite sport chaneels. On the nights we have entertainment the center TV will show what's going on outside on stage!
