The Hillside Academy for Excellence, operational since 1970, serves more than 450 students in kindergarten through grade five. The academy offers instruction in fine arts, physical education, and health science and technology. It provides special education and English as a Second Language programs. The Hillside Academy for Excellence offers a range of extracurricular activities, such as drama, orchestra, choir and yearbook. The academy conducts classes in photography and sewing. It is a member of PTA and offers several after-school programs. The academy s library administers an accelerated reader program and features various magazines, newspapers, books and encyclopedias. The Hillside Academy for Excellence is governed by the Garland Independent School District.
