Café Red Onion has one of Houston's unique culinary concepts with its "LATIN FUSION" of flavors. Offering you a non-smoking environment, Caribbean decor, rave reviews, top ten chefs and professional staff, it's a perfect setting for a memorable culinary experience. The company was founded in 1995, when it first opened it's 600 sq ft of catering space in 1922 West 18th St. What started as a catering and to-go idea in this 5 stool location has become one of Houston's finest bringing out the concept of new Latino Fusion of Caribbean flavors.Cafe Red Onion has been a top restaurant in a very competitive Houston market and our goal is to stay competitive in the years to come, and extend our family of employees with the growth opportunity as we approach the next level...franchising.Colorful, an extraordinary culinary adventure“Colorful” is perhaps the best word to describe the offerings served at Café Red Onion, a blend of foods from Mexico and Central America. The culinary melting pot begins with the one-of-a-kind pineapple salsa and plantain chips and ends (at least it should) with the chocolate empanada. Owner and chef Rafael Galindo, a native of Honduras, not only melds many different Latin cuisines but he’s also a master of presentation, using strips of red tortilla as a decorative, edible confetti and stacking everything so neatly on the plate that you almost want to leave it undisturbed. Some of the many signature dishes include the medallions of beef Colombia, which have been encrusted with coffee beans, giving them an unusual smoky, roasted note, and the cream of roasted poblano and chicken soup, thick with large chunks of chicken and kernels of corn. Each dish is so different in taste and presentation that it makes for an extraordinary culinary adventure.Refined and Classy"The place is so refined and classy, it reminded me of a South American version of Redwood Grill. But the kicker is that the prices are not that high. Most of the main dishes, or "South of the Border Plates," as they are called, run in the $8 to $11 range with the "From the Grill steaks and fajitas not much more. Top price on the grill menu is the Jalapeno Steak at $13.95 and top price on the "House Specialties" is the Southwest Snapper at $14.75."Latin American Fusion"For those of you who think this is a Tex-Mex restaurant... WRONG!This is a fusion of latin american cuisine and in my opinion, one of Houston's finer restaurants. Not only is the food presentation exquisite, it is delicious. I love the chef's use of mango in the appetizers, main course, and dessert."
