The building at 8021 Main Street has a long history in the development of the town of Smithfield. It existed as a wooden building in the late 1890's to serve as a general store, pharmacy and doctor's office. All of downtown Smithfield's buildings were wooden structures and the entire town burned in the early 1900's. John T. Overbey (1859-1927) built the present building using thick paving brick walls to make it more fire resistant. Mr. Overbey opened the business as a general store, but passed away in 1927. Isaac C. "Cap" Snider and his wife Lillie Mae "Missus" Snider bought the property in 1928 and continued the business as a general store, stocking groceries, dry goods, hardware, feed and a pharmacy. "Cap" had previously owned a grocery in North Fort Worth and moved his family to Smithfield to avoid some of the "wild west" atmosphere of the early stockyard days. The store functioned as a meeting place for the community for many years- at one point housing the post office and having one of the first telephones in the town that had dial "9" capabilities
