Since its opening, the Cosmopolitan has made its mark as the hotel-casino for the young and creative, with its popular nightclub Marquee (consistently one of the highest-grossing in the country), its lineup of restaurants from world-class chefs, its big-name concerts at the Chelsea, its commitment to art and artists-in-residence and its overall offbeat vibe. The Cosmopolitan exemplifies the diversity of modern Las Vegas.

Rooms at the Cosmopolitan
Originally intended as a condo development, the Cosmopolitan thus features private terraces on most of its rooms. Rooms range from the basic City Room to suites with wraparound terraces and bungalows that overlook Marquee Dayclub and feature their own private pools. Booking in advance is always a good idea, especially during big events and conventions, but like most Vegas hotels, the Cosmopolitan is accommodating for last-minute travelers.

Must-see and must-do at the Cosmopolitan
If you're a nightclub fan, Marquee is one of the essential clubs to visit in Las Vegas. The unnamed "secret pizza" restaurant is no longer much of a secret, but it's great for post-club or post-concert munchies. And the P3 Studio, with its monthly artist-in-residence program, offers up an interactive art experience like nothing else in Vegas.

Best and worst times to go to the Cosmopolitan
As always in Las Vegas, the summer months (mid-May to late August) may feature extremely high temperatures, but that can translate into great room deals. If you're a club-goer, Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend are always big blowouts for nightclubs, so those are great times to stay and check out Marquee. And music fans should check in around the time of California's Coachella festival in April, when many artists playing the festival book adjacent Vegas gigs at the Cosmopolitan.

Parking and public transportation at the Cosmopolitan
Like most hotel-casinos, the Cosmopolitan has its own parking garage, which is accessible from Harmon Avenue (so you can avoid driving on Las Vegas Boulevard). The garage can get full during concerts and big DJ nights, so you might want to park across the street at Aria or Planet Hollywood and take the pedestrian bridge. Or if you are at another hotel on the Strip, taxis should only cost a few dollars more than the regular Strip bus service.

Other places to visit near the Cosmopolitan
The CityCenter complex, which includes Aria, Mandarin Oriental, Vdara, Veer Towers and the upscale Crystals shopping center, is right across Harmon, and the Planet Hollywood hotel-casino is on the other side of Las Vegas Boulevard. For something a little less fancy, check out the Harley-Davidson Café, diagonally across Harmon and Las Vegas Boulevard.

Insider tip for visitors to the Cosmopolitan
